The Mustang men went head to head against Axtell on December 7th. The game started out slow for both teams with the first quarter score being 7-6. Silver Lake crept away with the lead at halftime with a 15-12 lead. After the half, the Mustangs could not get into an offensive groove. Too many missed shots allowed the Wildcats to take a 30-19 lead at the end of the third quarter. Despite a strong effort from the Mustangs, Axtell won 49-37. Senior Oakley Rosno led the team with 19 points. “We shot poorly in the Axtell game. It’s hard to win games if you can’t hit shots,” said Rosno. The Mustangs were led in rebounds by senior Brock Karr with 11 followed by junior Jake Knehans with 7.
Silver Lake was able to fix their offensive mistakes for their game on Friday against Elba. 7 players contributed points to the scoreboard. Oakley Rosno led the Mustangs with 23. Sophomore Keaton Karr added 15 along with 12 from junior Cody Pankoke. Silver Lake boarded 37 rebounds. This was a key factor in the Mustang’s success compared to Elba’s 11 rebounds. Brock Karr and Jake Knehans had 14 and 13 rebounds respectively. “The win gave us a good feeling going into Gibbon. A win always helps boost confidence that you need going into big games,” said Rosno.
