The Lady Mustangs of Silver Lake hosted their home opener and parents night with the Axtell Wildcats on December 8. The Mustangs started the game slow and fell behind 9-4 in the first quarter. By halftime, both the Mustangs and Wildcats added 11 points to the board, but the Mustangs were still down by 5. As the battle continued into the second half, Kerigan Karr led the way for the Mustangs, as she continued to find ways to score. However, this was not enough for the Lady Mustangs to pull away. In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Silver Lake was still down, 28-24. After a hard fought battle, the Mustangs could not overcome a 17% shooting percentage, and dropped the game 36-30. After a poor offensive game, Kerigan Karr ended the night with a total of 19 points, with Georgi tenBensel adding 5, Katelyn Karr adding 4, and Samantha Bonifas adding 2 points to the board. “The matchup was good. We were evenly matched, but our shots weren’t falling and that set us behind, ” said senior Kerigan Karr. The 1-1 Lady Mustangs will continue their season with a game on Friday at Elba.
