The Lady Mustangs started out their volleyball season with an hour and 15 minute drive to McCool Junction for their first game hoping to come out with a win. To kick off the night the ‘Stangs had the C Team come out on top winning both sets. The JV team followed by winning both sets as well with the first set being a very close score of 23-25 and the next set of 21-25.
The Lady Mustangs returned six starters this year with a lot of depth on the bench with upcoming freshman and sophomores. The Mustangs fell to McCool Junction in a close first set with a score of 22-25. In set number two Silver Lake came out with more intensity and energy and ended up on top with a score of 25-19.The Lady Mustangs built off that intensity and won the third with another close score of 27-25. In the fourth the girls trailed a little bit and McCool Junction took the fourth 21-25 taking the game into an exciting fifth set. The Lady Mustangs started out strong but ended with a loss with a score of 11-15.
Sophomore Georgi tenBensel, a returning starter, had 17 kills for the night along with junior Amanda Ehrman, another returning starter, adding twelve for the Mustangs. Seniors Madison Miller and Kerigan Karr and tenBensel all had a stellar serving night with Miller having 7 ace serves, and Karr and tenBensel following behind with 6. The Lady Mustangs had a total of 25 ace serves as a team, breaking the school record for ace serves in a game. Junior libero Katelyn Karr, a returning starter, had 22 digs for the night and 31 serve receptions. tenBensel added to her stats with 19 digs and 27 serve receptions, and Miller contributed 17 digs and 13 serve receptions to end the night.
