2022 Twin Valley Conference Third Place Finish for the Mustangs

By Sydney Bartels

Hustle. Hit. Never quit. The Silver Lake Lady Mustang volleyball team lived by this quote during the annual Twin Valley Conference Tournament. Killing it in the Mustangs’ first game of the tournament, Silver Lake took Blue Hill 26-16 and 25-20 in two sets. Leading the team with kills was senior Georgi tenBensel with 10 kills. Making sure nothing hit the floor in the back row, senior Brooklyn Meyer picked up 14 digs. The team also put together six ace serves, 19 assists, and 32 serve receives. Keeping the momentum going, the ladies were ready for a tough match-up against the Shelton Bulldogs. The Mustangs had fallen to the Bulldogs earlier in the year and were ready to redeem themselves. The team started off strong but couldn’t come out above the Bulldogs, ultimately falling to them in two sets. Feeling confident moving forward in the tournament, the girls were looking forward to their final game against Kenesaw. Everyone knew it was going to be a close game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Freshman Sophie Schmidt showed everyone her talent, racking up a total of 28 digs, adding to the team total of 77. Taking care of it in the front row, the team put down a total of 43 kills. The Mustangs ended up taking the match against the Blue Devils with scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 26-24 respectively. Assistant Coach Farley commented, “The team should be proud of 3rd place. I was impressed with our effort against the number one seed, Shelton. Every team member has improved and if we keep working hard we will find success in districts.”
