As the new year begins new teams form. Last year’s cross country team was not complete. The team only had two high school members and as the season progressed, they ended up with one due to injuries, and one junior high member. Coach Knehans is thrilled to have a full team this year. “It’s amazing; it’s nice to be able to have an actual team to score points. It takes three members to actually score points. It means more to run for a team than just for yourself,” said Coach Knehans. The new members are junior Jordan Faimon, freshman Hayden Karr, freshman Jayden Parr, and seventh grader Jordan Bonifas. The two returning Mustangs are sophomore Blake Monie and eighth grader Lane Magarin. Blake Monie is also this year’s Cross Country team captain. Coach Knehans has set many goals for his team this season. “Finish in the top three at conference” was Coach Knehans biggest goal for the whole team. On August 25, the Cross Country had their first meet at Brickyard park in Hastings, Nebraska. This meet was just a scrimmage. Coach Knehans said, “Everyone met or exceeded my goals for them yesterday for times and stayed competitive throughout the whole race. If everyone continues to PR and improve each meet I think we will be in a good position by districts to send somebody to state.” The Mustangs are ready for the season and ready to work hard and dedicate their time to Cross Country. Come support the Cross Country team on Thursday, September 1 at the Superior Country Club. Other meets that Silver Lake will compete at include Franklin on September 20 and the Twin Valley Conference meet at Clay Center on September 29.
